Join us for our 2-day class on Queen Rearing for Backyard Beekeepers.
On July 29th, we’ll begin the process of rearing queens in a queenless starter colony. We will set up a queenless colony with the proper brood and stores frames. Then we will graft larvae into cell cups to place in the starter.
On July 30th, we will check our grafts to see which ones are being fed royal jelly and place those grafts into a queenright finishing colony.
On August 9th, class participants can pick up an unmated queen from the shop to use in one of their colonies or splits.
Limit 6 participants per class. Class participants must bring their own protective equipment (veil, gloves, and long pants and sleeves). Setting up cell builder colonies requires shaking bees into another hive, which can result in the possibility of stings.
Class is 9:00 a.m. – 10 a.m. both days at the BZ Honey store, 405 E Main St., Tomball, TX 77375.
