We have postponed scheduling spring 2020 classes as a caution during the spread of the corona virus. Right now, it just doesn’t make sense to crowd 7 people around a hive of bees if there’s a risk to you or our beekeepers. Please check back here and social media for updates.
This class is for beekeepers who have their own protective gear. If you do not have bees, check out our Introduction to Beekeeping Class.
We’ll conduct a hive inspection on one of the hives at the shop and cover seasonally relevant material and what you should be doing to manage your hives. We’ll discuss:
- Identification of eggs, open brood, and capped brood
- Brood patterns
- Finding the queen
- Honey and pollen stores
- When to add/remove boxes
- Flipping brood boxes
- Gaps in the brood nest
- Adding/removing supers
- Harvesting honey
Limit 6 participants per class. Class participants must bring their own protective equipment (veil, gloves, and long pants and sleeves). We will work an active bee hive with the possibility of stings.
Classes are held at the BZ Honey store, 405 E Main St., Tomball, TX 77375. Classes are weather dependent and will be rescheduled if the weather forecast predicts rain or temperatures below 65 degrees.
